Viticultural Notes
This wine is made from a natural clone of Trousseau called "Trousseau à la Dame." It is cultivated primarily by massale selection. The clusters tend to be looser than regular Trousseau and yields are much smaller per hectare.
Vintage Notes
2017 Vintage: Quite possibly one of the most challenging vintages at Domaine Joly on record. As was the case across much of Europe, April brought hard frosts that devastated vineyard yields. At the Domaine, yields were down 50 to 90% on some varieties, with Trousseau and Chardonnay being most heavily impacted. Despite the low yields, quality was very high. The growing season was warm and relatively dry, easing disease pressure in the vineyards. The critical weeks leading up to harvested had optimal conditions for the grapes to achieve full phenolic ripeness with sufficient acidity and structure to compliment the higher concentration from lower yields.
2016 Vintage: A challenging vintage across the region due to wet conditions, however, the Jura was mostly spared from the spring frosts that drastically impacted many other French regions. Localized hailstorms did impact yields in some areas. The wet conditions that persisted meant that disease pressure was high and there was a constant battle with mildews. July and August brought hot, dry weather, which helped to improve conditions. Some periodic rains in September help to provide freshness and balance to the final wines. Quality and quantity was variable and some varieties fared better than others. Overall the vintage was considered good by all accounts.
