For over three centuries, Domaine Laleure-Piot has been producing fine wines in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte d’Or. The domaine is situated in the charming hilltop commune of Pernand-Vergelesses overlooking the hill of Corton and is comprised of 14 hectares of vineyards across Savigny-Les-Beaune, Chorey-Les-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and Corton. The Laleure family farmed their vineyards for five generations before selling the estate to Maison Champy, Burgundy’s oldest negociant, in 2010.
Pernard, meaning “the source which is lost,” is one of the oldest communes in the Côte d’Or and is nestled along the border where the Côtes de Nuits meets the Côtes de Beaune. Vineyards have existed here since the Middle Ages when Charlemagne ruled the Frankish state and later became instrumental in unifying much of western Europe. The commune’s nine premier cru vineyards and other lieux-dits are situated around 250 to 300 meters above sea level with primarily eastern exposure. The upper parcels are comprised of mainly brown and yellow marl soils and are the preferred sites for Chardonnay. Pinot Noir tends to be planted in the middle of the slopes where the clay-limestone soils dominate.
Today, the estate’s vineyards are farmed sustainably and the philosophy of winemaker Dimitri Bazas focuses on minimal intervention allowing the domaine’s terroirs and grape varieties to be showcased in the purest form possible.
