Domaine des Clos de Paulilles

Collioure - Banyuls

Established in 1800 by the Bernardi family, Domaine des Clos de Paulilles has a 200 year heritage of producing fine wines in the village of Anse de Paulilles, classified as a "Grand Site de France." The estate's 63 hectares of vines are planted on sloping valleys and terraces of schist across the appellations of Collioure and Banyuls, located in the region of Roussillon.

The Collioure appellation is comprised of 1000 hectares situated in the rolling terrain between the Pyrenees mountains and the Mediterranean. With soils comprised of mainly grey and brown schist, the region benefits from the moderating influences the altitude from slopes from the nearby mountains, the Mediterranean sea and strong, cooling Tramontane wind. Producing reds, whites and rosés, the wines of the region are known to have a distinct saline minerality.

Nestled in four communes of Collioure, Port-Vendres, Banyuls-sur-Mer and Cerbère in the extreme Eastern Pyrenees, the Banyuls region produces exclusively vin doux naturels primarily from the Grenache family of varieties (noir, gris and blanc). The top vineyard sites are planted on terraced slopes of schist that meet the Mediterranean Sea to the east.

In 2012, the Cazes family took over the domaine with the goal to build on the Bernardi's family of leadership and excellence in the eastern Roussillon.
